Tips!
The Lob Shot
- Make sure you open the club face when you set up to the shot. The more open the club face is, the higher the ball will go.
- Be sure to place the ball up (or forward) in your stance.
- Remember to put most of your weight on your back foot for this kind of shot. Also, let your wrist cock sooner than during your regular golf swing.
- Don't try this if you have an open front to the green!
Always aim for the center!! of the green!
Out of the Rough
- The most important thing to remember is to play the deep rough like a bunker.
- Place the club a couple inches behind the ball and keep an open stance.
- Make sure to keep your weight on your back foot. Hit an Intentional Slice to Hook the Ball Around Obstacles (I know, but it's explained below!!!)
A. Weaken your grip on the club.
B. Move your hands to the left on the club.
C. Open the face of the club.
D. Aim to the left of the target.
(Note: You can't hit this shot from the deep rough.)
Improve Your Putting Game (We ALWAYS come back here, don't we??)
- Don't hinge the putter. You want it to move in a pendulum motion with no clipping.
- To practice this motion, take a club with a short shaft, line it up (head-side up) with your putter and grip with your regular putting grip. You don't want the head of the club to hit your back.
- Keep your upper and lower body relatively still.
If you actually have a chance to practice:
- Practice the way you would play on the course.
- Spend most of your time practicing your short game since this is where most of the scoring during the round comes from.
- Practice the shots you might use during your round, like shots out of divots and left-to-right or right-to-left shots.
- Finally, spend the least amount of time hitting drives off of a tee. Remember, the short game is the key to scoring.
Tip of The Week
If you don't have much hair, don't wear a hat unless it's really hot and you don't want to get sunburned. If you have a lot of hair, get a haircut. If you don't want to, wear a hat. Never spend more than $20 to get your hair cut. And, if you ever do get a caddy, make sure he or she is not as well dressed as you.
